DEONTE’ STAATS, a Philly native raised in Baltimore, pens gritty, secret laced, character-drivenone-hour TV dramasand satirical half-hour dramedies.Staats, who identifies as bisexual, is aproudBlerd(Black nerd) thatsprinkles his love for sci-fi andcomics into his storytelling. Heattended North Carolina A&T, an HBCU where he majored in Computer Science and minored inEnglish, while producing TV commercials and performing spoken word.Recently,Deonte Co-wrote the penultimate episode for Season 4ofShowtime’sThe CHI, where he assisted Lena Waithe & Justin Hillian (Seasons 3-4). Heis one of the head writers for new dramedy, (ÀLa Carte (AMC),streaming on ALLBLK inMay2022, writing three episodes.
